Melrose Driving School FAQ's

Can you tell me if Melrose Driving School is a licensed driver training school in California?
Although Melrose Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently certified to teach driver training courses in California.  We recommend either calling Melrose Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out whether or not Melrose Driving School offers driver training courses that are state-approved.
Will the California DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the California DMV to find out if your driver training may be done by your parents in California.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does Melrose Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Los Angeles California behind-the-wheel training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Melrose Driving School that prior to signing up to take the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I live in a small rural town, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my driver training with Melrose Driving School include being taught how to drive in rural areas? Or do they just offer training for city driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to know how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the behind-the-wheel training you receive from Melrose Driving School will include handling unpaved roads and mountain driving.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to get my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Melrose Driving School or the California DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in California.
Can I take Melrose Driving School's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a Los Angeles California drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Melrose Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Does Melrose Driving School provide a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to complete one in order to obtain my driver license.
Melrose Driving School offers hands-on driver training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact Melrose Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
Exactly what type of driver education do I need in Los Angeles California before I can get my California driver's license?
The prerequisites for getting a driver's licenses vary from state to state, however most states now require teen-agers who are looking to get their first driver's license to register for a drivers education classroom course as well as a driver training course.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training company such as Melrose Driving School and ask if they offer a California-approved  driver training course which would fulfill California's driver's education requirements.
Is hands-on driver training required in California in order to be licensed to drive a car?
Absolutely.  All new drivers in California are required to take an approved behind-the-wheel training course before they can be issued a license to independently drive a motor vehicle.
Can I enroll in a California driver training course prior to having my California learners permit?
Most states require pre-licensed drivers to hold a instruction permit before being permitted to register for a driver training course.  You should contact a driving school like Melrose Driving School and ask for more information.
