SOS Driving School FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-licensed by the Idaho DMV to offer driver training courses in Idaho?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer driving training courses in Idaho.  We suggest you contact the Idaho DMV to make sure a particular driving school is certified before you register for their driver training course.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my behind-the-wheel training?
There are some states that do allow parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I can't drive a stick-shift. Will SOS Driving School allow me to complete my behind-the-wheel training on an automatic-shift vehicle?
We recommend that you contact SOS Driving School and ask them if you can do your driver training using a vehicle that has an automatic shift before signing up to take their driver training course.
Since I live way out in the country where driving on unpaved roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will SOS Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a rural environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a remote location, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as SOS Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and rugged terrain.  We recommend that you contact SOS Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Can I get my Idaho learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction school like SOS Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Idaho.
Do you know if the laws in Idaho require new teen-aged drivers to enroll in a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to take a driver training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.
Does SOS Driving School provide a driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Idaho? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
SOS Driving School offers driver training courses which are approved by the Idaho DMV.  You may want to contact SOS Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about signing up for one.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Idaho driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Idaho DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
What are the laws in Idaho concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Idaho law states that new drivers enroll in an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Is it possible to sign up to take a Idaho-approved behind-the-wheel training course before I obtain my Idaho instruction permit?
It depends on what the specific laws are in Idaho, however most states require first-time drivers to receive a learners permit before signing up for a behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend you contact a driving school such as SOS Driving School to obtain more information.
