Express Driving School FAQ's

How do I know if Express Driving School is certified by California's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include Express Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Express Driving School is certified by the State of California.  We recommend that you either contact Express Driving School directly or possibly the California DMV to find out if Express Driving School is a licensed driver training school.
I've been told that either of my parents can monitor my behind-the-wheel training, so I don't have to attend a San Diego California driving school like Express Driving School to fulfill my behind-the-wheel training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the California DMV or a state-approved driver training school like Express Driving School to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
I have no clue how to drive a manual-shift vehicle. What happens if Express Driving School makes me train on a stick-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Express Driving School and let them know before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you'll know for sure whether Express Driving School will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live in a very remote area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if Express Driving School offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as Express Driving School will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
Are 14-year-olds allowed to apply for a instruction permit in California?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to receive a learner's permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school like Express Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in California.
Can I take Express Driving School's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a San Diego California defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Express Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
California's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if Express Driving School offers this course or not?
Express Driving School does offer the driver training course that California requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Express Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact Express Driving School directly.
I live in San Diego California. What requirements must I meet to be able to get my first California driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of California, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Express Driving School may offer courses which would fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is there a law in California that requires me to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in California requires that all teen-agers take an approved driver training course before receiving a California driver's license.
Is it all right if I register with a driver training school like Express Driving School prior to my obtaining my learner's permit?
In most states, you are required to have already received your instruction permit before you sign up to take your driver training course like the one offered by Express Driving School.  We suggest you contact either Express Driving School to find out more information.
